Pere Vallhonrat short story contest

The Foundation of the Vallhonrat Ethnographic Museum in Rubí, coinciding with its 70th anniversary, creates in 2024, the Pere Vallhonrat Story Contest, in honor of the director of this local museum, with the main objective of recovering and disseminating, from a childish and original point of view, part of the history of some of the objects and pieces that are exhibited, in any of its areas.

The aim is to encourage students studying 4th grade of primary school in the city’s educational centers to show interest in delving deeper into informational, documentary, photographic and/or oral source research in the educational and cultural field.

The jury will award the most complete story, the one that mentions the museum, the most original imagination and ending. They will take into account the story and plot, the language and vocabulary, the ability to present, the careful presentation, the spelling mistakes, the syntax when writing the story, among other criteria.

Collection of local stories

The Vallhonrat Museum Foundation has committed to innovating and expanding the history of Rubin with a collection of children’s stories, which on this occasion, deal with the museum space itself, local facts and traditions with the aim that children identify and learn about part of the history and adults enjoy sharing moments of reading, activities and memories, creating a calm and familiar intergenerational space.

With a print run of 500 copies, the collection began in early 2022 with the story Come to the Museum , which presents each of the museum’s rooms in a friendly way.

This same year, and to commemorate the tragic flood, the story 1962, la riérada that was presented at the end of the year, explains this event that took place in the municipality of Rubin and that so many families experienced and suffered.

In subsequent editions, the big boot has been published for the importance of wine in Rubí, The colors of the garden to raise awareness among children about caring for nature and our environment, Grandpa Quim, who is already our grandparents who have known the museum’s objects firsthand, The girl who lives in the museum as recognition of the exclusive jobs that women had in the past, Miquel Vallhonrat collector and many more stories that we will gradually publish.

As has always been the case, the stories are distributed free of charge at the municipal library, day care centers and senior citizens’ residences, all educational lines of Rubí schools and to children between 4 and 10 years old, who stop by Finques Vallhonrat to pick them up, during office hours, while supplies last.

NEW GRAFFITI AT THE VALLHONRAT MUSEUM

The entrance to the Vallhonrat de Rubí Museum Foundation, in May 2023, has renewed its image, offering visitors a mural painted by the 1st year students of the Artistic Baccalaureate of the INS La Serreta and leaving on the interior facade, part of the old mural created by EdRa in 2012.

The new mural reflects the evolution of human communication through time, flowing like the water of a river through seven fundamental historical stages: Prehistory with the typical cave paintings; Babylon with cuneiform writing; Egypt with its hieroglyphs; Greece with myths and oral culture; the end of the Middle Ages with Gutenberg and the printing press; the 19th and 20th centuries, with the invention of various technological elements such as: photography, cinema, the telephone or the Internet, among others, until reaching the present day, in the 21st century, with the digital age where communication through social networks is immediate and crosses borders.

This graffiti will be included in the Street Art Route, organized by the city’s Projection service of the Rubí City Council.
